I bought the Sylvania Portable DVD Player for $120 at Kmart for my husband. He ended up not liking it and giving it to me. My experience with the Sylvania Portable DVD Player is some what fickle. There were times when I liked it and there were times I didn't like. And considering the fact that I had already had one in my upstairs bedroom, I wasn't all that disappointed in my experience.
What I liked about the Sylvania Portable DVD Player
I know it may sound a bit crazy but I liked the fact that it didn't cost an arm and a leg. You can get a good DVD player for less than $100 but more times than not, you 're not going to think highly of it.
The Sylvania Portable DVD Player is not only a DVD player but it also comes with a widescreen display. I personally wouldn't call it a widescreen because it's only 7 inches but it's still a nice size screen. I think this DVD player is made for people who like to travel and are in need of mobile entertainment. I threw the DVD player in my purse a couple of times but all it did was mess my screen up
Another thing I like about the Sylvania Portable DVD Player is that it not only plays movies but it plays MP3's as well. I ended up using it more for music playing than I used it for movie watching.
The only real thing I appreciate about the Sylvania Portable DVD Player is that it comes with a head jack so that I can plug in my ear phones. It keeps down the noise whenever I'm out in public.
What I didn't like about the Sylvania Portable DVD Player
There aren't too many features that come with this DVD player and I think that is what turned me off about it the most. Even though I only paid $100 for it, I was still interested in a bulk of different features.
The one thing that I didn't like about the Sylvania Portable DVD Player was that the screen got dirty real easily. I was unable to find some sort of cover so I could eliminate this problem but was unsuccessful.
Another thing I didn't like about the Sylvania Portable DVD Player were the speakers. The speakers didn't function all that well. So a lot of the time I had a hard time hearing my movies as well as music. I consider them to be low grade speakers and believe me when I say the aren't the best.
My conclusion?
For the price, I wouldn't recommend the Sylvania Portable DVD Player. Not unless you happen to be buying it for a teenager. As an adult consumer I don't find this a great buy at all. I would advise to put a couple of more dollars on a more expensive DVD player that offers a little more when it comes to functionality.
