Personally, I believe in a lot of different things. I don't think that us as humans can possibly fathom all of the things that were or are in our universe. Are there angels? I don't see why not. What about faeries or dragons; why not? In all actuality Sylvia even has spoken on the concept of faeries and other barely seen creatures. So why would a woman that believes in God and follows Jesus believe in such things? Normally you hear people that are neo-pagan, pagan, or of another alternative religion speak of such oddities. Well, she is virtually breaking the mold on this concept.
I have heard many "Christians" scoff at her writings or what she shares with others on Montel's show. As a "God fearing Christian" she should not speak of such "evil" things, right? Yet when it comes to people desperately wanting to know about a loved one that has died, who would they turn to for advice but Sylvia? She gives hope and warmth to those of us that need closure. So why on earth would anyone think this is a bad thing? I wish I could honestly answer that question.
So who is Sylvia Browne? Her full birth name is Sylvia Celeste Shoemaker. Her current last name of Brown was received from her 3rd marriage and she added the "e" at the end for her stage name. She is a Gnostic Christian and founder of "Novus Spiritus". She founded "Novus Spiritus" in 1986 as a way to show all of us God's love without fear, guilt, hell, Satan, or sin. She was raised a Catholic and even went on to teach in parochial schools for 17 years. She has a superb psychic and prophetic ability that has been tested time and time again only to show how true it really is. She is the #1 New York Times best selling author of dozens of books including her most recent "The Mystical Life of Jesus". She lives in California and wants to write for as long as she can. Did she do all of this without a degree; of course not. Sylvia holds a master's degree in English Literature. Sylvia has been having images since the age of 3 which she was lucky enough to have her Grandmother, who was a claimed psychic medium, to help her explain and develop her gifts.
There is a lot of controversy, as with most psychics, if they actually possess psychic abilities or if it is nothing more that a sham. The same holds true of Sylvia Browne. She has had numerous verbal attacks on her abilities, as well as her ethics. The fact that she was in trouble in the past for investment fraud and grand theft doesn't help her case at all. However, this is how I look at it: Even though it may not be on the up and up to profess that you know something about the death of a person and actually have no clue, don't you think that for most she is just giving them closure and maybe a little hope? Yes there have been a couple of incidents on the Montel show as well as a talk radio show where she really dropped the ball. But for the most part I think she is doing a really good job at spreading hope to those that are in need of it. Some may think this is deceitful and so they try to black list her as a fraud and nothing more. I say to each there own. Personally I enjoy watching her on Wednesday, especially when I had a bad week and am looking for a little positive in a story for a pick me up. Also, it's fun and makes you feels a little free when you are able to get caught up in the thoughts of "other beings" walking with us. It is at those times that I feel like I did when I was a child and was allowed to use my imagination without repercussion. So why not look past the negative hoopla and start to wonder if the small twinkling light in the corner of your eye was a faerie passing by. Go back to childhood for that brief moment and relax from the world of adulthood. After all, we can't live there permanently, so why not just visit from time to time to relax? Thanks Sylvia for giving us back those moments.

Post a CommentSylvia Brown gives this 'hope and closure' at a very high price. She is paid to do this. I'd have more faith in her intentions if she didn't charge so much.
Other than a very strong bias on the subject, the article itself was very well written.

Here is some of my own forecasting. Sylvia will make a big error exposing her fraud, and in the end result will be the doom of the Montel Williams show. Then Sylvia, and Rosie O'Donell will start their own show called "Intuitive Thought From a Big Mouth". Here is a poll if you believe in Sylvia or not: http://www.apopularitycontest.com/display_poll.php?ID=157
