Symptoms of Gluten Intolerance

Gluten Free Diets Are Best to Avoid Symptoms of Gluten Sensitivity

Lyn Vaccaro
As someone with gluten intolerance, I've had to endure my fair share of pain due to the fact that I didn't know what the problem was. For quite awhile I was under the impression that feeling bloated, having indigestion, gas and diahrrea was part of my life after about an hour of eating. I thought I was forever doomed to getting sick after eating, especially certain types of food.

Little did I know I had a gluten intolerance and that I should be avoiding a lot of the foods I was eating. Now I'm completely aware of the symptoms of gluten. It took a lot of pain to figure it out, but hopefully if you're reading this you won't have a long drawn out process as I did. These are some of the symptoms of gluten intolerance that I experienced.

Indigestion

It seems those folks that should be gluten free have a chronic issue regarding indigestion. I know I did. I always became bloated and gassy after eating. I was constantly burping and had flatulence that never seemed to quit. The only thing that seemed to help was not to eat, but we all know that's not an option right?

Abdominal Pain

Certain foods had me downright doubled over. When I ate a large portion of a gluten food, I'd pay for it for days sometimes. I soon realized it wasn't worth the pain I'd get to eat certain things. It's important to keep that in mind when you feel tempted to cheat. Recently I ate a cookie and was so sorry afterward. The abdominal pain I experienced for a couple days after was definitely not the way I wanted to spend my valuable time.

Diahrrea

Just what you need after eating something right? A round of diahrrea to keep you hopping to the bathroom for the rest of the day. Depending on what I ate and how much it was, I could find myself in this predicament quite often. As I stated earlier in the above paragraph, who needs it? I always wish I would've stayed gluten free after a round of this affliction.

Unexplained Inflammation

I seemed to experience a lot of inflammation for no apparent reason. It was never related to injury of any kind and would usually involve my ankles and wrists. They would swell to a minor degree for a bit and then go back down to normal. If I eat wrong again, I'll get that problem. It's never debilitating or anything, just painful and annoying.

Keeping yourself gluten free is paramount if that's what you need to do. Only in that way will you be able to avoid more severe issues like Celiac Sprue and go on to live a relatively normal lifestyle. One that's free of symptoms of gluten intolerance.
