Cats can also suffer from feline acne symptoms. However, the symptoms are rarely noticeable and most cat owners fail to even notice them. On closer observation, you will notice that your cat may have acne close to the lips or chin. Sometimes the comedones may seem like dirt. If the acne gets infected with pus and becomes red or bleeds, then it is time to take your cat for feline acne treatment. The acne can sometimes cause irritation and the cat may start scratching due to the irritation. This will result in bleeding and worsen the infection even further.
Feline acne treatment will vary depending on the severity of the problem. If the acne is mild, then a topical application of iodine, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic soap may be used. However, more severe cases of feline acne can be treated with some gel or ointment, which contains chlorhexidine or benzoyl peroxide. If the inflammation is severe, the acne may be treated with glucocorticoids.
If you wish to try out a feline acne treatmentat home, you may try washing the infected area with an antibacterial soap and then rinse it thoroughly with lukewarm water and then gently pat dry with an absorbent towel. Using Epsom salts with warm water also helps in the effective treatment of acne. This is a very useful treatment and helps in curing feline acne to a very large extent. Mix two tablespoons of Epsom salts in a quart of warm water and then soak a ball of cotton in this liquid and apply it on the infected area for five minutes.
If feline acne is not treated for a long period of time, it may lead to a condition called folliculitis. This is a condition where the hair follicles get infected. This will lead to pus formation and the lymph nodes may become sore and swollen. If the cat reaches this stage, you have to rush to the vet and administer feline acne treatment immediately. Sometimes the vet may prescribe antibiotics and steroids to treat the infection. Cat owners must always be on the lookout for any of these symptoms and seek medical intervention without wasting time, before the conditionworsens.
