Symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes Vs Type 2 Diabetes

Keith Dailey
More often than not, you will get general signs and symptoms of diabetes that it will be difficult to differentiate between type 1 diabetes and types 2 diabetes. In such instances, you will only be required to visit the doctor for a normal check-up. However, the following are symptoms that are specific to either type of diabetes and will guide you on how to go about your check-up with the doctor.

Type 1 diabetes signs and symptoms include:

An abnormal need to frequently urinate

An enhanced thirst, which is not quenched even after drinking different types of fluids.

A fluffy, dry taste and feel inside your mouth

Sudden mysterious and unaccounted for weight loss

One may also experience sight complications such as blurred vision

A general feeling of dizziness, whole body weaknesses and feeling kind of light-headed.

The signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes include:
Experiencing sight problems such as blurred vision

A very sharp pain in the legs, or feeling numb.

When one gets bruised or has cuts, it takes ages to heal

An enhanced, unending thirst, not quenched or satisfied easily even on drinking much fluids

A more than normal need to urinate

Yeast infections reappearing often.

As you may have noticed, these are general signs and symptoms, the reason why some of them are the same in both type 1 and 2 diabetes. Be advised that as they are general symptoms and signs, it may mean that you may be suffering from something else other than diabetes, thus, it is always advisable to seek urgent medical attention in case such symptoms or signs appear. The main difference between signs and symptoms of the two types of diabetes is that type 1 symptoms tend to develop and appear very fast whereas type 2 symptoms develop gradually over an extended period of time.

If any of the above symptoms appear to young children, especially those too young to express how they feel, it maybe very difficult to tell apart a bad day or real sickness. By and large, you should always be on the lookout for any occurrence of such symptoms on kids. One would rather make a mistake by taking precautions and booking an appointment with the doctor, than rushing over when it would be too late. Be free to communicate with the doctor about all the concerns you might be having concerning your young one's health.
