Can the Terrifying Force of Earthquakes Be Targeted?

Unpredictable earthquakes are the result of a chain of Byzantine stresses between the Earth's gnashing of tectonic plates against each other that interferometry nor satellite technologies cannot predict other than with ambiguous probabilities. Most seismic events are not felt and minor tremors or temblors usually cause little or no damage. Earthquakes are measured by using the Richter scale, a logarithmic scale from 1 to 10 and for each larger number, it is ten times bigger than its predecessor. A 'once a year' earthquake of 9 has ten times more energy than an 8.

The largest earthquake recorded in modern times was a 9.5 on May 22, 1960 in Valdivia Chile, "with the energy of a billion tons of TNT, enough to change the rotation of the earth" ^[1] Although the stronger the earthquake the less likely it will happen, in 2004 there were 4 earthquakes greater than 9. As of yet there has never been recorded an epic sized earthquake of 10 on the Richter scale.

The 7.0 Haiti earthquake has been erroneously described as "epic" but the description was based on the extensive damage and death from dilapidated housing. The superior building construction of the Dominican Republic on the same tiny island of Hispaniola persevered the enormous release of energy relatively unscathed. The most vulnerable to an earthquake's devastation are poverty-stricken and over populated cities with inadequate housing. Roger Bilham, of University of Colorado said, "Haiti's tragedy is almost certain to be surpassed sometime this century with at least one of a long list of big poor cities facing inevitable major earthquakes." ^[2]

Historically earthquakes were believed to be caused by God's wrath on the wicked societies, and that belief still pervades today in many societies. Pat Robertson blamed the earthquake on the Haitians making a pact with the Devil. Iranian Ayatollah Kazem Sedighi proclaimed that earthquakes are caused by, "women who dress inappropriately."^[3] The most earthquake prone area is Iran, the entire country is criss-crossed with major fault lines. President Ahmadinejad has said, "At least 5 million people should leave Tehran"^[4] to avoid concentrated devastation from a single devastating earthquake.

Since the 1970's, China has injected water into depleting oil fields to keep the "natural" pressure up in the oil reservoir for extracting more oil, "Earthquakes induced by water injection have occurred in four oil fields."^[5] In the world's largest oil field in Saudi Arabia, "the percentage of water mixed in with the oil is now 30 percent."^[6] With the peak oil production now in the past and more and more secondary recovery of oil occurring, synthetic earthquake studies has become the emergent research worldwide. It appears that there are more earthquakes recorded in the past 50 years than the last 100 but is claimed that this is simply because of having thousands of more seismic recorders around the world.

Nikola Tesla during the turn of the 19th century had created a tiny oscillator tuned with the resonant frequency of a building to simulate a localized earthquake and "In the 1930s, Tesla revived the idea of telegeodynamics to create small, relatively harmless temblors to relieve stress, rather than having to wait in fear for nature to take it's course."^[7] Paleoseismology is the study of prehistoric earthquakes which has rejected the "common misconception that having many smaller earthquakes can somehow 'relieve' a major fault."^[8]

On October 15th, 2006 the island of Hawaii had a very strange earthquake occurred where a square wave was measured by the U.S. Geological Survey recorders.

"It's a tremendously interesting earthquake," said Jack Boatwright, a senior seismologist at the USGS ... "The mechanisms of this earthquake and its aftershocks are quite strange." said Cecily Wolfe, a seismologist at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa."^[9] The odd earthquake occurred days after North Korea's Taepodong failed test and speculation of a Tesla Magnifying Transmitter may have caused the exotic earthquake halfway around the world. "The 'Tesla Effect' describes the electromagnetic standing waves in the earth itself, where the coherence feeds into and augments the induced standing wave. Crustal pressure is a main ingredient to the formation of 'transients' deep within faults"^[9]

Is it possible to bring into being a cataclysm to be used as a weapon of mass destruction? An awesome energy released on cue as a new weapon of war, better than nuclear annihilation because of no radiation aftermath, unable to blame the architect of destruction?
