There are quite a few things you should find useful in the Control Panel. Get here by going into your Start Menu and click on Control Panel.

Here is a short and simple rundown of the options available through your Control Panel.

  • Backup and Restore: back up your important data or make a complete PC backup and restore previous backups.
  • System: view basic system information including processor speed and memory; view performances ratings by using the Windows Experience Index Base score; allow remote access.
  • Power Options: change battery settings, power button options, and system sleep cycle.
  • Indexing Options: lower to improve system performance but prolong searches.
  • Performance Information and Tools: tools to improve performance, disk cleanup, adjust visual effects; system health reports, and disk defrag.
  • Device Manager: view all devices connected to the system, update or rollback drivers, and view driver details.
  • Administrative Tools: provides an Event Log or allows you create partitions in the Computer Management option.
*The left column of the Control Panel window displays additional links. No harm in exploring and familiarizing with the Control Panel environment.
