SYTYCD S7: For August 11 2010; Who's Gonna Win? the Prince, the Girl, or the Tween Idol?

So You Think You Can Dance, Season 7: The Finalists Are Robert Roldan; Kent Boyd; Lauren Froderman

Rik Merchant
The SYTYCD 2010 finals are this week. On Wednesday, August 11, the three finalists-Robert Roldan, Kent Boyd, and Lauren Froderman-will compete for the dance championship. One of them will become this year's America's Favorite Dancer.

Last week, after America's votes, AdéChiké Torbert just missed the finals. Having the least number of votes, he was cut. The kid came from a tough background and had to work harder than most to get as far as he did. But he was not quite as good as the other three competitors.

As judge Mia Michaels said-Robert Roldan is the prince this season. He is beautiful. And, as executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said-he did everything that was asked of him. In fact, no matter what Robert danced, whether it was Latin Ballroom, Hip-Hop, Bollywood, or something else not his genre (which is Contemporary), he danced each style as if it were his own. Few dance professionals would ever have guessed. He has been near-perfection every week.

Down-home-boy Kent Boyd has had an excellent season, also. But he ironically had a bad night last week. Every routine he danced, except for his solo, was below his usual standard and disappointing. But he is typically excellent and, according to judge Adam Shankman, could have a successful career on Broadway.

Lauren Froderman has had an impeccable season. One would expect no less from her or her male comrades. She started out on the show dancing as a girl, a naughty one, and is now dancing as a beautiful sexy woman. CLICK HERE to watch a dance video of Lauren from a couple of years ago and see how unbelievably crazy-fantastic she was even then. She is the sun and the other dancers are waning candles.

The two male dancers share one major advantage over Lauren. Robert and Kent have each danced definitely Emmy-worthy routines this season, which Lauren did not. One of Robert's was 'Fix You'-a dichotomy of tragic and joyous-danced with all-star Allison Holker, choreographed by genius Travis Wall. Kent danced a baseball-theme routine Neil Haskell. But his ultra-amazing gut-wrenching one was the stabbed-in-the-back routine, also danced with Neil, also choreographed by Travis Wall. Yet, despite the guys' advantage, Lauren has danced some very sexy hot numbers-especially Latin Ballroom with all-star chick magnet Pasha Kovalev.

Russell Ferguson won the finals last season. Jeanine Mason won the season before that. The question is-will a girl or a guy win this year? The competition among the present-season finalists seems close. If this week's finals were a horse race, we would likely say the winner won by a nose. Kent is my least favorite. I'm rooting for Robert. But I will also cheer if Lauren wins. Tomorrow night, the winner will be crowned and will become a Gatorade poster athlete...
