So You Think You Can Dance, Season 7: Top 9 June 30 2010; Melinda Sullivan in Danger

SYTYCD 2010, June 30: Season 7's Top 9 dancers danced with partners they randomly drew from the All-Stars Pool, comprised of twelve popular dancers from past seasons- the all-star chose the genre. Also, tonight, each competitor danced a solo. The host is Cat Deeley. The judges are executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, and Adam Shankman. Here are the performances in sequence-.

AdéChiké and Lauren: AdéChiké Torbert danced Hip-Hop with all-star Lauren Gottlieb, choreographed by Dave Scott. Music: 'Hot-n-Fun', N.E.R.D. featuring Nelly Furtado. Nigel said Dave had brought out AdéChiké's personality, natural funk, and swagger. He said, "There was a great energy between you and partner." Mia agreed and said AdéChiké's performance was solid. Adam gave a whoop and said, "That's what I'm talking about." He thanked AdéChiké for listening and learning.

Ashley and Ade: Ashley Galvan danced Contemporary with all-star Ade Obayomi, choreographed by Dee Caspary, his first time on SYTYCD. Music: 'Cosmic Love', Florence + The Machine. Nigel said Ashley had smooth fluidity- the steps did not get in the way. Mia said the dancing was extraordinary- like a purple wind, a hurricane, a summer breeze. She called Ashley her favorite dancer still. Adam said she was breathtaking and her Contemporary performance was one of the best female ones on SYTYCD.

Billy Bell danced his Contemporary solo to 'Something Bigger, Something Better' by Amanda Blank.

Robert and Courtney
: Robert Roldan danced Jazz with all-star Courtney Galiano, choreographed by Sonya Tayeh. Music: 'XXO' by M.I.A. Nigel told Robert that he's a very strong dancer. Mia advised him to take Ballet because it will make his performance more solid and grounded. She loved the 'choking'. Adam said you are so engaged and are so engaging. His one piece of advice was to not 'jump down'.

Jose Ruiz danced his B-Boy solo to 'Super Bad' by James Brown.

Melinda and Pasha: Melinda Sullivan danced the Salsa with all-star Pasha Kovalev, choreographed by Fabian Sanchez. Music: Magdalena Mi Amor (Quimbara) by D.L.G. Nigel said he didn't see fluidity in Melinda's dance, just dancing step by step, thus losing the musicality of the dance. Mia said Melinda had done everything she could to stay above water. She regretted letting Cristina Santana go instead of Melinda last week. Adam agreed (he and Mia had won out over Nigel in keeping Melinda). Yet, he appreciated her tenacity and fire.

Kent Boyd danced his Jazz solo to 'Down' (Candlelight Remix) by Jay Sean.
Alex Wong danced his Ballet solo to 'Rule the Planet' from the soundtrack to Planet of the Apes.

Lauren and Neil: Lauren Froderman danced a sultry Broadway routine with all-star Neil Haskell, choreographed by Joey Dowling. Music: 'Let Me Entertain You' by Debbie Gibson. The dance was made extra-sultry when Lauren's strap to her short silver dress broke. Nigel said to Lauren, "You were extremely seductive tonight." Mia wanted more slinkiness, which happened after a wardrobe malfunction when Lauren's dress strap broke. She wanted to see more feminine qualities from the athletic dancer. Adam said Lauren brought back a young Cyd Charisse (actress/ dancer).

Ashley Galvan danced her Lyrical solo to 'Royal T by Crookers featuring Róisín Murphy.

Billy and Kathryn: Billy Bell danced Contemporary with all-star Kathryn McCormick, choreographed by Stacey Tookey. Music: 'Jar of Hearts' by Christina Perri. Nigel told Billy he's a brilliant natural dancer but now he needs to be able to connect with his partner. Mia said the only lacking element in his performance is that connection. Adam agreed.

Robert Roldan danced his Contemporary solo to 'Hold You In My Arms' by Ray LaMontagne.

Jose and Anya: Jose Ruiz danced the Samba with all-star Anya Garnis, choreographed by Dmitry Chaplin. Music: 'Long Time' by Shakira. Nigel told Dmitry he'd brought out the man in Jose. He told Jose he is not the best dancer on this show but he has magic in his eyes and smile, he has charisma-which can't be bottled or taught. "You controlled Anya, for goodness sake." Nigel also admired his shanay turns on the table with Anya's legs wrapped about his waist- a move that shouldn't be possible. Mia called Jose's joyousness contagious. Adam said, "You made the dance work for you."

Melinda Sullivan tap-danced her solo to 'Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down' by Alicia Keys.

Kent and Allison: Kent Boyd danced Jazz with all-star Allison Holker, choreographed by Mandy Moore. Music: 'Heartburn' by Alicia Keys. Nigel told Kent he has a magical quality but his performance needs to become real again, no fake stuff. Mia said Kent's more caught up with being a television personality rather than with the artistry. Adam told him he's one of the most marketable dancers.

AdéChiké Torbert danced his Contemporary solo to 'Ruthless Gravity' by Craig Armstrong.
Lauren Froderman danced her Contemporary/ Jazz solo to 'Unchained Melody' by Cyndi Lauper.

Alex and tWitch: Alex Wong danced Hip-Hop with all-star tWitch Boss, choreographed by Napoleon & Tabitha D'Umo (Nappy Tabs). Music: 'Outta Your Mind' by Lil Jon & LMFAO. The judges and the audience roared and were on their feet over this unbelievable routine- the best Nappy Tabs yet AND the most incredible Hip-Hop dancing by anyone anywhere ever, according to Nigel, never mind by a ballet dancer. Mia exclaimed, "Who the hell are you! You have defied everything about the ballet world." She was shocked and said the performance was unreal. Adam shouted, "This is your world and I'm just visiting." His voice kept cracking with emotion as he poured out accolade after accolade. Nigel believes the Nappy Tabs routine will be up for an Emmy Award.

Tomorrow night, after tonight's votes, three dancers will be in danger and will have to dance for their lives. The judges will cut one. Out of the three girls and six guys, the dancer most likely to go home is Melinda Sullivan. After her sexy wardrobe malfunction- and excellent dancing- Lauren will be safe.
