SYTYCD - Vegas Week!

Katie D
It's Vegas week for So You Think You Can Dance, and the judges have their work cut out for them. 152 of the nation's best dancers are ready to duke it out to be one of the top 20 dancers that make the cut. Nigel Lithgoe, Mary Murphy, Tyce Diorio, Mia Michaels, Debbie Allen and Alan Shankman make up the loaded expert panel whose job it is to find the stars in the crows.

So, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas - except for SYTYCD-ers!

To jump start the week, the dancers each perform a solo for the panel. Standouts included Nathan Trasoras and Ellenore Scott. Nathan got his ticket last season, when he was 17 and too young to go on Season 5. Nigel handed him a ticket for season 6 because of his talent. Worried about expectations, he nailed his solo. Ellenore is a confident dancer with a standout personality who won the judges over with her cuteness.

Mid-solos, 10 dancers already were gone. And then there were 142...

As the day continued, there were more cuts. Allison Becker (the hearing-impaired girl highlighted in tryouts) and Thomas Hamilton (who wanted out of his crime-ridden town), as well as Shelby "Skip" Skipper all got the boot.

More cuts were still to come. The controversial same-sex ballroom couple, Jacob Jason and Willem de Vries performed. While Willem made it through, Jacob was cut.

By 4 o'clock, 41 dancers had left. 111 were standing.

Next up - hip hop with Tabitha and Napoleon (NappyTabs).

Teddy Tedholm shocked the judges with his great performance (the plaid-pants boy seemed like a very unlikely hip-hopper!).

The disappointing were cut - 21 in all. 90 left.

One disappointment that escaped with a warning was Ryan Casperzak, who was given a second chance only because of the judges affection for him.

And then there was the Cha-Cha with Louie Van Amstel (with help from Anya).

Russell Ferguson (the first crumper to get through to Vegas) shockingly knocked the cha-cha out of the park. Billy Bell made it through, even though he got elbowed in the nose and the bleeding prevented any practice to the music before the dance.

Legacy Perez didn't do well, and was instructed to prepare to dance for his life after all the auditions.

Ryan wasn't so lucky. To the judges (and many fans!) disappointment, his performance wasn't great, and he was sent home.

John Litzler from New Orleans was also told he would be dancing for his life.

After the auditions, Legacy and John put their all into their performances, hoping to make it through. Unfortunately, John didn't get the votes, and had to go. Legacy got through solely on his fabulous dancing in his genre, but the judges let him know in no uncertain terms that his dancing in other genres would have to improve for him to make the next cut.

Teddy Tedholm got the boot after the cha-cha as well, eliminating another favorite from the potential top 20.

Next week - only 77 dancers remain... 57 have to go. Vegas week continues!
