Table Decoration Ideas for Christmas

Skyler Raine
It's that time of the year again and whether you dread it or you cannot wait for it, the family and/or friends Christmas dinner awaits you. If you are the lucky one to be hosting this annual event, you know well that the table decorations can almost be as important as the food itself.

Pick a color scheme or theme and try to stick with it. The best place to start is with the tablecloth as this will set the basis for the look. It doesn't necessarily need Christmas prints on because it will most likely not be seen under the plates, glasses and other decorations. Pick a color that will blend in well with the rest.

Every table needs a centerpiece and what could be nicer than a beautifully arranged display of flowers. White will go with anything but if you are sticking to the traditional red and green, a bouquet of red roses would look spectacular. Keep in mind to arrange them at a low level to allow guests to see each other. You can even add a nice touch by applying spray glue and lightly tossing gold glitter onto them.

Staying with the red and green theme and giving it a nice and earthy tone, why not fill shot glasses with cranberries, surround them with garland and place a single white birthday cake candle in it (these will then not be for eating as the candle wax would spoil it) and surround these with scattered pine cones. Always keep in mind, though, not overdoing it in order to leave space for the actual food.

Sticking to a color theme is not for everybody and there is nothing wrong with mixing it up but if you want to stick to a color scheme but are not in favor of the red and green setup, an elegant white theme can also look fabulous. To break the white a little it would be a good idea to surround your dinner plates with a thinly woven wreath which of course would go nicely with the green leaves of the white roses - an absolute must for this color scheme. Thin stemmed white candles will provide a subtle ambience accompanied with dim lights. And if you feel the need for another dash of color here, don't be afraid to strew single red fruits like cranberries and very small very red apples here and there.

There really is no end to the possibilities of decorating your table this Christmas - heck some people even decorate their chairs. At the end of the day do something that is uniquely you and don't worry about keeping up with the Joneses. Christmas is, after all, about friends, family and mostly, harmony.
