First of all they're way too expensive. The iPad especially is high priced. I would like to have the latest and greatest of every electronic device that I see, but there is a limit to how much money I'm willing to spend for a gadget.
When I first bought my netbook, I was a bit skeptical. I have always used a desktop computer or a regular sized laptop. My reasoning for purchasing the netbook was for travel. Full size laptops are unwieldy on planes. I have never regretted my purchase. I find the netbook easy to use, and you get accustomed to its smaller size quite easily. In fact now when I use a full size laptop, it feels really cumbersome and uncomfortable.
I also have an eReader. You might ask if you have an eReader, why not just break down and purchase a tablet device. Basically, it is because I don't want to give up my keyboard. I love the touch screen on the tablet devices and cell phones. They are now making Netbooks with touch screens, so maybe the solution for me lies in that direction.
If there was a device, which combined my laptop with my eReader that would truly be the best of both worlds. My main concerns are readability for books, a keyboard, and affordability. Until all those issues are addressed and combined into one product, I'm going to stick with using the two devices that I already have.
When I'm at home, I still like to use my desktop computer even over my netbook. I just can't seem to give up that big old monstrosity. I like the bigger screen of my monitor. My husband on the other hand rarely uses anything except his netbook. That surprises me because he always complained about the small screen before I bought him his netbook. I was a bit worried that he wouldn't like the keyboard on his new little laptop, but I made sure when I purchased it that the keys were regular size. I knew he definitely would hate it if the keys were too small.
The choice of whether you like a tablet or a netbook could be more of a generational choice. My younger relatives are completely sold on their iPad. It all just boils down to personal choice. Both have their virtues and limitations. You just have to find a device that you feel comfortable with, and can afford.

I absolutely love my little netbook, and have no desire for a tablet. Good article.
Good job!
Good job, Pat. It is personal preference. My husband enjoys his laptop but he didn't like the tablet devices. cheers :) (p.s. for the best prices we have always gone to TigerDirect.com)
It's netbook for me.
An excellent article! I've never seen a tablet "up close and personal," but I kind of get the impression they're more like oversized smart phones with some added capabilities than they are a fully functional computer. I plan to stick with my tried-and-true full-sized laptop. Well done, Pat. Thanks!
excuse me, I can spell comparison--sorry!
very well done caomparison, Pat!
