In a non-taste taste test, which would be the preferred computer? A tablet, a netbook, a laptop or a desktop?
Not many people own a tablet just yet. Many are leary of them and not willing to take the next step. There are also not many who just primarily use a desktop anymore. Most people have laptops it seems, but a fair amount also utilize netbooks.
Desktops are obviously not mobile. You can't take them to class with you and type during lecture, although it would be quite humorous if you did. The good thing about them is that they are going down in price, so it's more acquirable my people. A lot of people utilize them as a family computer, and the entire family shares one, so that works.
Laptops are nice to haul around to class with you. It's easy to find a plug to charge your battery if necessary. Wireless is pretty easy to come by for the most part. The only downside is that they can be very expensive and hefty to lug around. They can also be costly to repair, due to the small space that techs are working in.
Netbooks are really small and lightweight. They are easy to haul around. They are cheaper than a traditional laptop. However, every one I know that has a netbook has had it break down on them within a short period of time. More often than not, it has been more worth their while to replace the whole thing than to pay to have it repaired (however, they didn't bring it to Code Format to be repaired, so who really knows? haha)
Tablets, as stated above, haven't really taken off yet. It's a whole new system to get used to. The keyboard isn't the same, the layout isn't the same. Some say that they are the computer of the future, and others say that we will never get to that point. Who knows? They are reasonably priced at the moment, so that may be something to consider.
Everyone has their strong opinions on what is best, just like the neverending Mac vs. PC debate. Everyone will always prefer one over the other, and that's fine. What works best for you?
