Bio: We drive around the country, handing out free Taco Bell tacos to people. What's not to like?
There was no mention of the Taco Bell Truck at the website so I called the toll free customer service line. Calling them on a Saturday morning probably wasn't the best idea but I had to get to the bottom of this quandary. I heard the prerecorded message about how valuable I am to them and to please hold the line for the next available guest representative about 40 times. I was tempted to hang up and call back during the week but I was on a mission.
Michelle came on the line and asked for my name and phone number, after giving her that I told her about the Taco Bell Truck page at Twitter and she let out a very hearty laugh. "If there was such a thing, I'm sure there would be commercials about it". I told her I didn't see anything on the website so I decided to call and get to the bottom of things. I didn't call without checking Google and a few other websites to see if there was any mentioning of the "free taco" offer from the Taco Bell Truck. The closest I could come to a "free taco" was a promotion that Taco Bell had in October and that was a regional campaign.
So does the Taco Bell Truck exist? Right now, sadly, I am going to have to say no. If you call customer service and they don't know anything about it you might shrub your shoulders and assume that they may not have the current info on it but when you hit a corporate website and there isn't even a mention of it .. things get even more fishy. So why would someone create a Twitter page promotion "free tacos"? The only thing I could come up with was a competitor / vendor / grease truck owner that wants to be in the area when people are looking for this mysterious truck so they can swoop down and make some fast cash.
Ok, so what else tipped me off to this being a complete crock of bull?
There are no pictures posted of all the happy customers that they have served free tacos to. Even though there is a link to the Taco Bell website, anyone can enter any website on their page. Twitter started a "verified" program and this page doesn't have the verified logo on it. Links that are posted on the Twitter page go to Quicksilver and the only photo that has been posted is of a cheesy Quicksilver belt buckle. Yeah, if QS is that desperate to get customers, maybe you should have picked someone other than Taco Bell to ride on. Trust me, if Taco Bell had a truck that was driving around giving out free food, they would be promoting the hell out of it.
Hopefully Taco Bell and Yum! Foods will get this page yanked. I'm still trying to figure out why someone would go through all that trouble to set up a fake page.

Post a CommentWell I have Taco Bell's official Facebook fanpage and they just posted a status recently that
"The Taco Bell Truck has come home for the weekend to our corporate office in Orange County! Next Stop, the All-Star Game celebration in Anaheim.
The @Tacobelltruck will be at the MLB Sponsor Zone on July 11th, 11am to 2pm. Keep your eyes peeled for a group of baseball fans with free tacos. http://tacobelltruck.tumblr.co..."
and i know its the official facebook because i got it from their website so the taco bell truck is real
If these responses to your post were legitimate people "correcting" your error, I seriously doubt they would be using the insulting tone I sense in some of the posts. Sounds like someone got busted and is pissed off about it. Haha!
I don't know about free taco's but the The Taco Bell truck has been parked at my Hotel for the past 5 nights! Gone during the day! Just North of Boston in Woburn, MA.
@Taco Lover Thanks for the hit ... if Taco Bell has no clue about their "promotions" then it's their fault not mine. I do so love getting comments like this ... please, visit often.
This is why the internet is being ruined. People like this idiot "Freakmamma" do the barest of research on pages like Wikipedia and then pronounce something as being either legitimate or not. Well, guess what Freakmamma, the Taco Bell truck exists! How do I know? My very own eyes you dope! The real-deal Taco Bell truck is sitting in front of my building here in NYC! Guess what else? They are giving away Tacos too! Next time try doing a little more due dilligence when researching something. I would start by calling someone in Corp. Communications, not the stupid 800 number Customer Service operator on a Saturday. What an A-Hole!
Yeah, this truck does look pretty fake:

The Taco Bell Truck was featured about the 7th or 8th inning of the MLB All-Star game, with announcer Joe Buck even making the tacos! So Freakmama, we're waiting for a retraction ...
watching the all-star game now and Krazy Kelly is right...Joe Buck just talked about the taco bell truck and it's free tacos - while handing out tacos himself.
The Taco Bell Truck is very real. My cousin works on the project. It was in downtown St. Louis today -- being filmed by FOX Sports! You'll see it on their MLB All-Star Game coverage (there's your proof, brain surgeon). It'll also be at the All-Star Game Fanfest giving away FREE tacos & burritos. Maybe you should send someone you know in St. Louis down there.
So glad you said earlier that this would get you more exposure ... it just provdes you are a bad journalist who doesn't do their research!
