Lodging: The best bet in Taganga is a small, American-owned hostel on Calle 17. Hotel Oso Perezoso (Hotel Lazy Bear) was constructed in 2006 by owner Nathan Shroyer, and truly has the best breakfast in Taganga (and probably most of South America). Reservations are recommended, as the hostel has only five rooms. Room rates are approximately $10 a person, and include breakfast. Fruit salad topped with yogurt and homemade coconut granola is the perfect way to start another lazy day in Taganga. All rooms have private baths and are painted in fresh, caribbean hues. Make sure to meet Roberto the parrot (he does not like to be touched) and Lolita the dog, and spend some time with Yaneth, the kind and friendly manager.
The third floor of the Hotel Oso Perezoso is Tsumani Bar, which boasts a panoramic view of the ocean and mountains. Even if you aren't staying at Hotel Oso, stop by Tsunami Bar at any time for the fruit salad, cold beers, 80GB jukebox, and full menu.
Diving: Although there are now eight dive centers in Taganga, the most highly recommended company is Aquantis. Johan is the friendly (and bilingual) owner and ensures that each customer has a safe and wonderful experience. Although you may find cheaper dive package prices in town, beware of outdated equipment and underpaid employees. Aquantis provides fun dives as well as mini and full courses.
