Taiwan Earthquake

A Taiwan earthquake struck on Saturday night. The Taiwan earthquake caused some injuries. The Taiwan earthquake also caused damage in Taipei, the capital, and near the epicenter of the quake.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the 6.4 magnitude Taiwan earthquake was around 15 miles from Hualien. The Taiwan earthquake struck at an approximate depth of 30 miles.

The Taiwan earthquake shook capital buildings. Four people in the capital suffered minor injuries due to falling debris from the Taiwan earthquake. As a result of the unexpected Taiwan earthquake, there was suspended service on Tapei subways and the high speed railroad.

NewsPk reports the Taiwan earthquake caused minor property damage in Tapei. A Hualien hotel had blown out windows from the impact of the Taiwan earthquake.

A Taiwan earthquake is not an unusual occurrence. There are frequent Taiwan earthquakes that do little damage. Some Taiwan earthquakes pass through fairly quietly, causing no damage at all.

There is always concern about a Taiwan earthquake since the one in 1999. Referred to as the 921 Earthquake, this Taiwan earthquake occurred on September 21, 1999 in Nantou County, Taiwan. Wikipedia reports the 1999 Taiwan earthquake killed 2,416 people with 11,000 injured. The total damage done by this Taiwan earthquake totaled $300 billion. This was the second-deadliest Taiwan earthquake since the 1935 Xinzhu-Taizhong earthquake.
