The creature known as Tony the Tiger has been living at a truck stop for the last several years instead of his natural habitat or even at a zoo, being subjected to fuel, diesel fumes, and noise, not to mention being taunted by some tourists.
The Fund is urging citizens to sign an online petition urging the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to revoke the permit that allows Michael Sandlin to display Tony at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, LA where he has lived with no other tiger companions since 2003.
To sign the petition, click on http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/5154/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=6207.
The permit was originally issued in 2009 and and re-issued last year to Sandlin, according to cbsnews.com. (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20053622-504083.html).
According to one of many Facebook pages set up for Tony the Truck Stop Tiger a long time ago in hopes of helping to rescue him and trying to provide a sanctuary for him, there have been more complaints about the facility than any other abusive situation, as stated by Big Cat Rescue.
The tiger has made national news, his plight appearing on shows such as "48 Hours."
In unrelated animal news, the Greater Good Network is asking concerned citizens to sign an online petition to shield sea otters from oil rigs and help defend the creatures from destructive drilling. According to the agency, Alaska's Bristol Bay is a national bio treasure boasting four ecologically sensitive sanctuaries, including world-renowned Izembek National Wildlife Refuge.

The Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) is urging interested persons to sign an online petition asking the retailer Strawberry to go fur-free.
"Strawberry, a leading New York area retailer, was recently found selling real fur vests marked as 'faux fur' and unlabeled sweaters trimmed with raccoon dog fur," states Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of HSUS in a mass email.
HSUS is asking citizens to make a polite call to Strawberry asking them to keep fur cruelty out of its product line, then follow up with an email by signing the petition at https://secure.humanesociety.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=4915.
