Take a Bath in the Sink : Steps for Bathing Baby

Jamie Brown
While some parents choose to buy a portable baby wash tub or basin for giving a baby or toddler a bath, others prefer to simply take a bath in the sink (kitchen or bathroom sink is fine for this purpose). Since the sink is already connected to a water source it makes running the bath and cleaning up afterwards very simple. In some cases this might be a more comfortable experience for the child as well. Taking a bath in the sink is a simple 7-step process.

1. Scrub the sink with a mild detergent and disinfectant cleanser to assure it's clean. Make sure that all of the cleanser is completely cleared from the sink so that you won't irritate the child's skin.

2. Line the side of the sink with towels to prevent a mess if the baby splashes around and keep an extra towel draped over your shoulder as your baby takes a bath in the sink. Place an absorbent mat on the floor in front of the sink as well. If possible, have your partner assist you in case the baby or toddler is resistant to the process.

3. Run lukewarm water into the sink until it's filled about halfway. Add your mild baby soap to the water to create some bubbles for your bath in the sink. Turn the faucet to the side when you're done to clear the way.

4. Lower the baby into the bath slowly, feet first, to assure that he adjusts to the temperature of the water. Adjust the temperature of the water as needed.

5. Wash the baby gently in the sink with a sponge being careful to keep his head above the water. You can hold the baby by his back with one hand while washing with the other.

6. Remove the child from the sink when you're done and wrap him up in the towel over your shoulder immediately.

7. Drain the sink thoroughly after giving baby a bath in the sink and wipe it clean again for regular use.
