How can you plan a nice day trip on a low budget? Should you stay local or go the distance? How are others escaping the four walls of the home to keep the kids happy? Well, there are several steps you can take and some trip options are closer to home than you may think. Take a moment to consider these 10 ideas for some weekend fun:

1. This may be a great time to learn more about the history of your city or town. Take time to learn about historical sites, highly recommended restaurants, and any site-seeing tours that may be available.

2. Step out of your comfort zone by getting involved in fun activities that are provided within your community. For example, riding in a hot air balloon, taking a canoe ride, bowling, or roller skating.

3. Check the social and community advertisements section in the local newspaper. Determine if an event is coming to town, will there be a street fair, or a play you have always wanted to see but never had the time.

4. Is there a winery nearby? Take a road trip to the closest winery and learn the process of how it is developed and get a taste of the various kinds. Walk away with a bottle that can either be decoration for your home or celebration for a special moment.

5. Plan a picnic in the local park. Fill the picnic basket with your favorites, take a board game, or a ball and frisby. But, be ready to have a good meal and some exercise.

6. Is there an amusement or water park nearby? Take the children and let them have some fun.

7. Rent a few movies, purchase your favorite snacks, and take a moment to relax within your own home.

8. Have a game night. Invite a few friends over and get ready for a good challenge.

9. Plan a multicultural potluck. Open your doors to friends, family, or coworkers and encourage everyone to bring a dish that reflects their ethnic heritage.

10. Find a bed and breakfast and let yourself be catered too. Enjoy the early morning breakfast, relaxing theme of the room, and walk the grounds.
