Before you plan your vacation, check the internet. There are several websites to help you save money. For example, www.expedia.com and www.travelocity.com will give you the cheapest plane, hotel, and car rental prices in the area you are planning to visit. Another great site for finding the cheapest airfare online is www.mobissimo.com/search_airfare.php. This site gives you a list of the cheapest airfares and the airline provider. Yet another great site for finding discounts online is www.currentcodes.com. This site lists the current discount codes for car rentals and hotels. It is a great resource for saving money on your room. You simply click on the link it provides for the service you want and it will take a percentage or dollar amount off your room or rental car. If you plan on driving to your destination instead of flying, print off maps for free from Google maps or www.mapquest.com. By printing maps off online, it saves you time and money. You will not be driving around lost wasting gas and time if you know exactly where to go and how to get there. Also, by using a rewards back credit car for gas purchases, you can earn money if you intend to pay it in full when the bill arrives. Once you figure out your vacation spot, check online for coupons to the area attractions. If you visit the city's tourism center online, you can often print off coupons for certain attractions.
Making a checklist will save you money on your vacation. Checklists remind you to pack the necessary items you will need for your vacation, thus saving you money because you will not have to purchase these items while away from home. They will also help you remember to stop services like the mail and the newspaper while you are away from home eliminating the possibility of someone burglarizing your home while you are away. Dealing with insurance companies can be time consuming and if you do not have homeowner's insurance, replacing the items stolen will be expensive. Checklists are also excellent for reminding you to bring along your prescription medications which are very important and critical for some vacationers.
Do not forget to pack snacks before you head out the door. If you are traveling by plane, you can take snack packs of pretzels, cookies, and chips. Remember not to take any liquids with you. If you plan to travel by car, pack a cooler full of drinks and sandwiches. As a result, you will be saving money by not stopping at fast food restaurants and convenience stores for snacks. You will also be saving on time. Little stops for a quick bite to eat take away travel time.
When you begin to think about taking a vacation, do not be afraid to ask questions. Ask your friends, your family, and your co-workers where they have vacationed in the past. Did they enjoy their stay? Do they have any advice on where to stay, what activities to do, or what attractions to visit? When you decide on your final vacation destination and start calling to reserve your room and rental car, do not be afraid to ask the customer service representative if they have a special promotion or a current discount they are offering. It never hurts to ask. You may end up with fantastic savings!
Vacations can be very inexpensive if you plan wisely. There is no reason to sit home when you can enjoy the sites and sounds on your vacation. Go ahead and get packing for your much deserved vacation.
