Take a Hike, Brett Favre!

Brian Munger
Brett Favre needs to go back home and stay retired. Seriously, is he as good he thinks he is? Sure, the Green Bay Packers had an unbelievable season last year, and Favre put up great numbers, but was he really that good? Or were his opposing teams just really bad? Who did the Packers beat last season? Think about it? Yes, they did beat the San Diego Chargers and New York Giants during the regular season, but keep in mind that those games were in week two and three of the season . . . a time in which both the Chargers and Giants had yet to find their groove. If the Packers had beaten those teams around week ten or eleven, then I'd give them more credit. The only other "real" team they played in the regular season were the Dallas Cowboys, which they lost 27-37. Favre totally choked in that game. If not for Favre getting hurt in that game, they would've lost by even more points! Aaron Rodgers was the only reason that the game was as close as it was.

Look at the last 13 games of their season last year. Besides Dallas, they only played one playoff team during that span. That one team was the Washington Redskins and quite frankly, they were barely worthy of being considered a playoff team. The other teams they played were weak teams like the Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers.

So you can say Brett had a good enough year to stay their quarterback for the '08 season, but I will respond to that by saying several other quarterbacks could've done the same thing last season, given the talented people around Favre, and given the weak schedule they had. The Packers realize this, which is probably the main reason they don't care for taking Favre back. Favre choked in the Dallas game and he choked in the playoff game against the Giants with a costly interception. Favre was not reborn last year. He was simply in the right place at the right time. He is not a big loss to this team. It's time to go, Brett!

I honestly believe that most of the Packers don't want him back. If they did, don't you think they would try just a little harder to campaign for him? His teammates have the power to convince management to bring him back, but they didn't utilize that power. They simply played it by ear and went by the mentality of "whatever happens, happens." The players could have easily banded together to force management to bring Favre back, but they did not do so. They want Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback. They want to prove that Favre is not the reason why the Packers had so many wins last year. They want to show they can still win without Favre.

Take a hike, Brett! The Packers don't need you and neither does the NFL!
