Take Me as I Am

A.M. Morgan
Who am I suppose to be?

When someone refuses to see

I cannot appease to a standard

Of a person that is not me

What am I suppose to say?

When someone is upset

That I don't meet an unrealistic expectation

How am I suppose to feel?

About a unfavorable response

To my true self being revealed

Why can't I find comfort in the skin I'm in?

Without compromising who I am

Is it right to lose myself just to have a superficial friend?

How can I travel on my journey without a mind of my own?

I've learned being myself sometimes means I will stand alone

I appreciate those who accept me as I am

Yes I am imperfect but I can't hide from who I really am

I choose to be free

So I will not be in conflict with the reflection in the mirror I see

Therefore take me as I am or just leave me be

What a lovely, strong piece! I only wish I had the courage to repeat it when I should express the same sentiment ...

Bravo! If trying to meet the expectations of others, there will always be work and adjustments to be made since everyone will expect something different. "To thine own self be true"

Who are you suppose to be, if not a creative genius?

As long as you understand why you do what you do then do you.

People who have walked away and will walk away blow them kiss and say goodbye. Better yet throw up two fingers and say holla!! LOL!! :)

People cannot live up to the expectations of others...I understand your struggle because I have been there. Hang in there.

An inner struggle that so many of us grapple with. People will always have their opinion of how someone else should be. However, it is so empowering to know your true self and have the courage to be yourself no matter what outside pressures you face.

It's horrible that people are always looking for some one that is "real" but the reality is that "real" is a perception. It seems that we must all fit into a preordained stereotype based on our race, gender, heritage, or lifestyle. I applaud you for standing up to those who do not accept your individual attributes.
