Take Me to the Moon

Poem

Brandon Elliott
Sand fills between my toes
as I stand on a beach
of hope and misery.

Holding only a balloon, I see no shadows.

The bright sun shatters my will
and makes me long for darkness still.

What is life, if not for death?
An empty explanation for faltering breath?

The water charges and takes more and more
Greed soils the beach as a seagull screams with rage and war.

Hate flees from the sky and enters the waves
Nature ignorantly reminds me that humans are only slaves.

Frozen with loss, the air grows still
devouring through my body, a bone-scraping chill.

Brewing on the horizon, is a selfish monsoon.
Please, reclusive balloon, take me to the moon.
