Take Mom on a Picnic for Mother's Day

This Mother's Day why not give mom a day off from cooking and take her on a picnic. Picnics can be easily put together and require very little, if any, cooking.

Where you live can determine the type of food you take on a picnic. In warmer climates taking foods with mayonnaise or other dairy products is not recommended. They can spoil quickly if they are not kept cool.

Wraps are quick and easy to make. Simply take your favorite type of tortilla, layer in meat, cheese and vegetables then roll it up. If you want to make things for everyone, pick up sandwiches from your local sandwich shop.

Chicken is a convenient picnic food. You can pick up a whole roasted chicken from most major grocery stores, or grab fried chicken, and all the sides, from a chicken restaurant.

Traditional picnic food may interest mom, especially if she doesn't have to cook it. Hamburgers, grilled sausages, hot dogs or chicken breasts are signs of summer approaching. Pair these with baked beans, potato salad, chips, macaroni salad, or mom's favorite side dishes and let her enjoy her day.

If mom is a seafood lover, give her a special Mother's Day and pack some peel and eat shrimp, or grill some fresh seafood such as shrimp, crabs or lobster if you want to be indulgent. Your local fish market will be able to help you select just the right seafood.

If you want to do a romantic picnic for two, select a good bottle of wine, some gourmet cheese, crusty bread and a nice selection of fruits such as grapes, strawberries or melon.

Let mom be a kid on Mother's Day with some desserts like popsicles or an ice cream cone. Indulge her sweet tooth with brownie or a decadent chocolate cake.

If mom is health conscious, you can still give her a wonderful meal. Grill kabobs with chunks of chicken breast, pork tenderloin or shrimp along with fresh vegetables. Mushrooms, onions, squash, tomatoes and peppers all work well on the grill and are good taste partners with various meats.

Pack a nice basket will all your ingredients and don't forget plates, napkins and utensils and mom's favorite drink. Do everything in love and mom is sure to enjoy your Mother's Day picnic treat.
