Take a Vacation in Beaufort, South Carolina

If you ever get to visit Beaufort, South Carolina, I highly recommend visiting the downtown area. There are a lot of one of a kind shops, like Holly Hocks, with just about anything that you would want, and then some. In Beaufort, there is water everywhere and any where you go you have to cross a bridge. It is absolutely beautiful there. The only place that I know of where you can see dolphins swimming inside of city limits. Be sure to take the boat tour. We took it on our last vacation there, and had a blast. When we would see a dolphin, the tour guide would turn the boat toward them and get as close as we could. It is absolutely breathtaking to see a dolphin swimming in the wild, and will make you act like a kid.

You will also want to visit Hunting Island while you are there. They filmed some of "Forrest Gump" there from what I am told. And on the boat tour, you can see the place that Sally Field rented while she was in town filming. You can actually climb the Lighthouse on Hunting Island, no elevator though, and the beach is nice. They actually have sea turtles that come up on the beach to lay their eggs. You have to get up early to actually see the sea turtles, and it is only during a certain time of year.

There are two Marine Corps bases located in Beaufort, The Marine Corps Air Station and Parris Island Training Depot. While we were there, we got to see the jets take off and land. That was pretty awesome. One of the jets had to take off and land again, because they had landed hard, that's what we were told, so that they could make sure everything was still in working order.

Beaufort is just north Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia. Great golfing and shopping; and just south of Charleston, South Carolina. The historical districts in these towns are unbelievably beautiful.

The two restaurants that we eat at while in Beaufort are Applebees and Outback. They are really good, we even got a coupon from Applebees for a free appetizer, and was able to use it at the Applebees at home. At Applebees, I recommend the Alfredo bowl with grilled chicken, it has that luscious creamy sauce, grilled chicken and vegetables. And for dessert, the Triple Chocolate Meltdown is to die for. At Outback, I can eat three of those little loaves of bread with butter all by myself, it is wonderful, and the rib eye is delicious.
