Taking Advantage of Holidays to Build Traffic to Your Website

Mark Egan
Most people are hanging out with family and friends on holidays. For webmasters, it's a great opportunity to take advantage of the holiday traffic. On big holidays such as Christmas or thanksgiving, almost everyone is in their holiday shopping mode. If you manage to get your website or blog connected with what people are looking for, you can build tons of traffic to your website and make some extra cash.

Here are three steps you can follow:

1. Find your niche and do some keyword research

You can simply go to any of the major store websites to find hot product that people tend to buy. Then you could create a list of holidays or events that are related to your niche. Once you know what you're going to target you can prepare the content like articles, podcasting, or videos.

2. Create your website with holiday keywords

First, choose the holiday keywords you're going to use, write the title and article text inside of the pages with them. Search engine spiders are programmed to monitor keyword density. This way will help the spider to determine if the page is relevant and useful to a buyer's search request. For example: if you have a website about cooking and recipes, you could publish a series of posts on thanksgiving describing how to cook a turkey on other recipes that people would be interesting. Second, use keywords in your links to other product pages. If a buyer visited your electronics site by searching on cameras, make sure your links to product pages of the site use this keywords in hyperlinked text.

3. Use SEO and social marketing to promote your website

You could attract many visitors depending on the content and on your promotional efforts. Try to get creative with your content. It can perform well to write quality product description, add relevant videos, and list some funny stuff on your website. The more back links that your website get, the more traffic it will receive. Visitors from organic search traffic will be very targeted. If you manage to rank well for a popular keyword on one of holidays or events, the result would be a huge influx of traffic. If you put your effort into social media traffic you can promote it accordingly. Submit the content to some popular social websites, joining the communities, making more friends, and you can get more exposure to your website.

If you're interested to use this strategy, make sure prepare your website and publish content before the holiday, because it needs a couple of days to be indexed. Once you set up the website and begin to receive traffic, collect the results, analyze what worked well and what needs to be modified, and exploit this trend the next year.
