Taking Advantage of Used Car Auctions

If you're in need of a car, but are on a tight budget, an auto auction may be the best possible way of obtaining car of quality. If you are watchful you can score big at auctions, getting quality vehicles for less than what you would pay for a used car. Why? The government hosts auctions to get rid of old service vehicles (not necessarily bad) that need replacing and repossessed or impounded cars. They want to sell the cars as quickly as possible so that they don't take up so much room (after all, they don't stop collecting repossessed cars once they hit a quota). Depending on the auction you go to, you can find a wide variety of vehicles. You never know what's there until you check it out. They list detailed history reports so you can check out the car of your dreams without ever leaving your desk. Be sure to do research on the individual cars you're interested in so that you don't overbid.

If you're going to a live auction near you, make sure to take advantage of the inspection day. This is the time where you can check out the cars (probably not test drive) that are up for sale. Look them over, write down the ID number, and find a car history report online. Make sure you're looking at a quality car. Also, pick more than one car so you're no crushed if the car of your dreams is sold to someone else. If you're working with a budget and you set your sights on an in-demand car, you might be disappointed when it goes for higher than you would have liked. So check out more than one car.
