Taking Back Your Life: Making Your Own Decisions

Dougie Lloyd
There are many things that we have to go through in our lifetimes. We have to suffer through death, illness, and personal losses. Then, on the positive side, we have to go through promotions, increases in family size, and buying new homes. Both sides provide us with an emotional roller coaster ride. With all that we have to go through, it is important that we take control of our own lives through the decisions that we make. There should not be someone else who is controlling what happens to you. No one can make the same decisions that you make for your own unique circumstances.

When making a decision, especially when you face multiple possibilities, there are no assurances for success. All that you can do is ensure that you are making the best possible choice given the circumstances and information that you have. For example, you are not guaranteed success if you choose to change jobs for one that pays higher. You cannot predict what will happen in the future, nor can you definitely say that the job will be better than your previous one.

You will never know that you have made a wrong decision before you actually make the decision. Again, you cannot predict the future, or the outcome of a decision. You can only hope that things will go the way that you want them to. You can only keep a positive mind set for the possibilities that your decision holds. When you experience wrong decisions, the best thing that you can do is file what you learned in your brain and move on. You will gain knowledge each time that you fail.

With every single choice that you have, make sure that you can provide benefits and drawbacks. It is important to be able to weigh your decisions against one another. This will aid you in making the most logical choice.

Finally, you need to have confidence in yourself. You should believe in the deepest part of your soul that you can make the right decision for you. No one knows you better than you know yourself. You know what your limitations are, and you should be able to have enough confidence in yourself to make the right decision. Without a high level of confidence, all you will see is a cloud of doubt. You will second-guess every single decision you have made, are about to make, or will make in the future. This is not a healthy way of thinking.
