You will need to learn how to take care of your new tarantula. Tarantulas are a special, different kind of pet thats for sure. I don't believe their an ideal pet for just everyone. There definitely unusual. And, you can spend hours just relaxing and watching them.

Its fairly easy to take care of a tarantula. You would not say that they are a lot of work to keep. Dogs and cats require more maintenance, what with feeding and yard maintenance. Their easy to purchase from pet shops. Their food source is also pretty reasonable and they actually eat so little.

Their are some simple basic requirements to giving your tarantula a happy and healthy environment to live in. The best way to purchase your new tarantula is to visit your local pet shop. There are a variety of different types available. Many times the shop owners are quite knowledgeable about them and love to tell you all about their care.

If the shop owner has some recommendations for you as to what some of the best types to purchase are, then go online and do a little research. The more you know about your future pet then you can make him or her an ideal cage for their needs.

A very quick, sturdy and relatively inexpensive cage is an aquarium. Generally most people secure down a wire mesh top. Which works two fold, because it allows fresh clean air in and it also keeps your pet in the cage. Tarantulas are stronger than they look and they can actually move the wire mesh top if its not secured.

The cage can be on a relatively small size. Actually too large of a cage allows the crickets to hide better from your spider. Lets face it he needs to eat! Layer the bottom of his new home with some natural moss or sand, so it feels more like what he is use to in nature.

Some of the basics of taking care of your tarantula are using common sense. He is in the cage, so its up to you to provide food and water. By the way be sure and glance at his water dish at least once a day to see that its full or has not been tipped over by him. The dish only needs to hold an inch of water.

Go back to the pet store to purchase food for him. They will thrive on crickets. Generally any store that sells the tarantula also sells the food that they need. Some different types of tarantulas may have special requirements for their diet, but most will do fine on about 6 crickets in a month. Talk about cheap to keep!

Taking care of your tarantula just doesn't require much. His needs are really few. A couple of things to consider is don't put in any kind of heating. The regular temperature of the room should be fine. Don't get the idea of putting a light in his cage or very close to it. Spiders really don't care for light. Its not natural for them.

For the tarantula to feel secure you should make a point of using some natural material in the cage for them to hide in. A small stick on the floor of the case with some bark leaning against it will do nicely.
