Many people do not know that police and other official agencies troll social networking sites looking for evidence of criminal activity on users pages. It is not hard to find many news stories where a Myspace member, usually a teenager, was arrested for drug possession, drug dealing, assault, even rape. One does wonder about the intellectual fortitude of these people who think it is safe to post their exploits for the world to see. Perhaps the world is a better place that they show such lack of judgment as it makes them infinitively easier to catch and get the help they need, or put them behind bars where we can sleep better at night knowing these menaces to society can do us no harm.
The other and more prevalent reason some people wish they had never joined Myspace is that social networking seems to have a addictive factor to it that is largely unrecognized by our culture at large. For most people only a few pieces of advise allow them to kick the Myspace habit quickly and get on with their lives in an effective and rewarding manner.
First the addict must admit they have a problem. Without this happening a long lasting change in behavior will never occur The second thing they must do is distance themselves from Myspace every way possible. This means contacting your friends you used to talk to on Myspace in other ways. Remember the Telephone? I'm sure it misses your loving attention if your a Myspace addict. Pick it up and hold it for a while. Talk to it. Get to know your phone again. Both of you will be happier. The third thing you will want to do is to put up notice that you will no longer be available on Myspace so anyone who really needs to get in touch with you will know not to leave something important for you there. You would not want to get notice that your brother who lives 8 states away got married 6 months ago would you? Let those friends of yours know your kicking the Myspace habit and you mean business.
If all else fails just delete your Myspace account all together. Its going to hurt in the short term but those hours of your life you would have spent on Myspace are yours again. Go out and do something with them besides reading this article and visiting Myspace.
