Taking the Kids to the Beach? Four Things You Need

Sunscreen, Beach Umbrella, Essential Toys & Jogging Stroller

Barb Hacker
A day at the beach with the kids is a lot of fun when you are prepared and a drag when you are not. Start a day at the beach off on the right foot by packing sunscreen, a beach umbrella, fun sand toys, a jogging stroller and a cooler full of snacks.

Take Sunscreen to the Beach

Kids need lots of sunscreen while at the beach. Pack plenty because it will need to be reapplied frequently throughout the day. Look for sunscreens that have a high SPF, are waterproof and are easy to apply to squirmy kids, like Kinesys Spray Sunscreen for kids.

Bring Your Own Shade to the Beach with a Beach Umbrella

A beach umbrella is a nice accessory for your day at the beach. Tired kids can take a moment to rest and eat their lunch out of the sun's direct rays. Look for a light-weight umbrella that is easy to use. Beach umbrellas not only protect you and your children from the beating sun, but from blowing sand and rain, should the weather not cooperate. The rainbow, 8' diameter, Towa beach umbrella is a practical way to provide coverage and is available on-line from Amazon.com.

Children Need Beach Toys for a Day at the Beach

Fun beach toys are a necessity for a day at the beach with kids. The traditional buckets, shovels and rakes are great for making castles and other sand structures. For kids that like to dump and pour, bring the Backyard and Beyond Water Wheel. This toy is fun for toddlers and older kids, as well.

Bring a Quality Jogging Stroller to the Beach

If you have young children or a baby that needs a stroller, a jogging stroller is the most practical for a day at the beach. The large wheels move easily through sand when a regular stroller gets bogged down and becomes hard to push. A stroller with a reclining seat and a canopy also makes a great napping spot for a baby or toddler while at the beach. Check out the Instep Ultra Runner Single Jogging Stroller for a stroller with a sun canopy and an under seat basket for storage.

A day at the beach with children can be fun or frustrating. Remember the kid-friendly sunscreen, the beach umbrella, special toys and a jogging stroller. Prepare ahead of time to take the essentials that will make your day at the beach a breeze.

This is a helpful, blessedly simple list. Another item that a Californian recommended to me is talcum powder. It will take the sand right off before everyones climbs in the car to go home.

Don't forget food! Fresh fruit, popcorn, ice cream and sandwiches are great and easy to bring along in a cooler.
