The first kind of technology to ever bring the web to computers around the world was called the dial up connection. It used your phone line in conjunction with a dial up modem to call the number of a server that your provider owned. The very small bandwidth of the phone line was utilized for not only sending but receiving internet information among computers.
So you might be wondering what in the heck a T1 connection is. Many people have heard the term so many times but such technology is not common place within house hold level web connections. The technology uses T lines that have been around for many years to deliver, what was at the time of it's inception, one the world's fastest possible web connection.
The most commonly seen internet connection in a large number of communities is the one provided by a cable company. This method uses your cable company's television lines to provide a very large amount of bandwidth for a very high speed connection. It is also important to note that through this technology, cable companies are able to offer very high quality phone services as well.
The DSL type of connection is just as common in modern house holds as the cable one is. This service comes from your phone company and delivers information using a different area of the phone lines that are capable of high speeds. Keep in mind that this service, unlike dial up, will not disrupt you from receiving phone calls. It also is less likely to slow down than a cable connection.
Over the last several years the television stations have been showing a large number of commercials advertising the most recent type of high speed internet for the home. It is called fiber optic technology and it uses very high bandwidth fiber optics to deliver a speed that is very difficult for other services to try and match. Also remember that this technology is capable of giving the best quality in high definition television as well.
So you have now taken a few short moments from your day to review some of the most common types of high speed internet connections commonly used, you might respect yours just a little more. Remember that T1 connections typically only exist in business environments. Also keep in mind that the other technologies mentioned are very common in most house holds today.
