Taking the Perfect Picture of Your New Puppy

Every owner of a new puppy wishes to share their love and joy at some point. Most owners will want to take a number of candid and posed photos to share with their friends and family. While this project can bring great excitement to both you and your dog, there are several tips that should be followed to ensure its success.

First, it's important to remember that your puppy is incredibly small compared to most human photography subjects. It's always best if you position yourself on the ground so that you are only a foot or two higher than them. It may be more comfortable to sit, kneel, or use your own combination of both. It's important that your poppy remains comfortable and excited during your photo shoot. Ensuring that your dog has eaten, napped, and has been walked recently will make for a comforting photo shoot.

While it may be tempting to use complicated, or trendy backgrounds this may only confuse your viewers. It may be better to stick with simple, non-abstract backgrounds. Going along with this tip, the use of appropriate lighting during your photo shoot is essential. If you're taking your photos inside inshore that your setting has enough natural light to display your new puppies coat and sparkling eyes. Normally this requires the use of a very powerful flash. It may be useful to lower the power of your flash if your poppy's face is being drowned out by the excessive amount of light. Even if you are taking these pictures outside, the use of a flash may be helpful.

Most photographs we see are taken from a horizontal perspective. This ensures that the subject is perfectly centered and still provides an adequate view of the background. As we've discussed the background is not the most important part of your photograph. Try taking your pictures with a vertical stance to help illustrate the height of your new puppy. This style may need you a new perspective on your future photography endeavors. It doesn't matter if you're using the newest digital SLR camera, or an older 35mm, proper use of focus can make or break your pictures.

When taking candid shots of your dog leaves of an anti-blur feature on your camera can help the focus and flash work together to capture the best result. While this may not always be possible with your wiggly bundle of joy, the result is always sure to bring a smile on the faces of your viewers.
