Taking Your Pet to Croatia

If you are planning a move overseas to live in Croatia and would like to take your pets with you there are some conditions that must be met first. There are conditions surrounding the bringing of pets into the country that you should check into before making any plans involving your pets coming to Croatia. You will need to make sure that you get the necessary paperwork for bringing your pets abroad to Croatia as well as making sure that you have the proper paperwork for any other countries that you may be passing through on your way to Croatia. The obvious concern for most countries is bringing a pet into the country that has rabies and thus having it infect other animals in the country. The rules and regulations are an attempt at preventing an outbreak.

Anyone is allowed to bring their pets into Croatia provided that they are accompanied by an international certificate of vaccination and have had a recent veterinary examination. The examination must show that the pet is free of rabies. The most recent vaccination date for your pets must not be more than a year prior to the date of entry into Croatia or you will not be permitted to bring your pets into the country. If you are bringing your pet to Croatia by plane then you will also need to have a Fitness to Fly certificate. This is required by almost all airlines.

At the border crossing the veterinary examination can be done if need be, however you will have to pay a fee for that and it may be higher than if you had gotten it done previously. Your pets will not be subject to a quarantine in Croatia as long as they are properly vaccinated and you have sufficient confirmation of the vaccinations. You may also need to have the necessary micro-chipping details on your pet if that is applicable.

If you are taking a pet from Croatia to a European Union country you will need to make sure that you have gotten a pet passport for your pet. In order to get the European Union pet passport issued you will first need to get your pet micro-chipped and vaccinated against rabies. You can download the necessary paperwork online.

Something important to consider when thinking of taking your pets abroad to Croatia is whether or not you will want to bring them back to your home country. There is a pretty good chance that there are quarantine regulations with your home country.
