Taking Precautions for Your Pet During High Temperatures

Leaving Fluffy in the Car for a Few Minutes Can Be Extremely Dangerous

Living in desert regions or areas where temperatures reach into the 80's and 90's can be dangerous for both humans and animals. Pet owners sometimes do not realize how hot animals can get and the damaging effects heat has on pet health. In areas such as Arizona, temperatures reach 115 degrees some summers and this can be extremely dangerous for pets. Many pet owner think that leaving their pet in the car for a few minutes will be just fine. A few minutes may turn into 10 minutes and at this point, if the temperature outside is 100 degrees, the inside temperature can far exceed that temperature outside.

Your pet will become dehydrated and will overheat extremely fast. When an animal overheats, it is like a computer overheating. When a computer overheats, the brain of the computer can become fried. This can happen to animals just as easily. If your pet is overheated, you need to head to an emergency animal hospital or your veterinarians hospital ASAP. If you do not, your animal could perish without the proper care. Even outside in your backyard your pet can overheat. Providing water is essential in this circumstance when they are outside most of the day.

Just like humans, if animals do not receive enough water intake for the day and what is recommended in areas such as Arizona, they will dehydrate. If the dehydration is not addressed, the animal will perish. Because of financial hardships, some people will completely shut down the A/C when away from home and leave their pet inside thinking they will be OK. Houses can heat up as well, not as quickly as a car, but animals can dehydrate inside of a non A/C house during the summer in Arizona. If you live in an area such as Arizona, then take the necessary steps and precautions for your pet to prevent dehydration/overheating.

There are many careless pet owners out there that do not think of the temperature outside of being that high and that it won't get that hot inside the car. However, the temperature in a car can jump 30 degrees fairly fast. You should really think twice about taking fluffy with you to the grocery store, does he/she really need to come with you? Is it really worth having them lose their life because of a careless mistake? There are many states that have been enforcing animal cruelty punishment on individuals caught leaving their dog in the car, which is a good thing. Hopefully with this tactic, more and more people will leave their dog at home.
