There are three types of train collectors. Pre war collectors who collect trains manufactured before World War II struck, the post war period and the modern era. These three broad classifications are to meet up with a logical way to categorize collectors.
This hobby is not the cheapest and when one does decide to go into landscaping and wants to know the setup of exact historical places with computerized controls the project will run into tens of thousands easily. When one decides to landscape he must keep the budget and the inter-compatibility with the scale he actually wants to model. There are number of scales each catering to a particular market and specific need. Some of them are G scale, Gauge 1, HO scale, WO scale, TT scale, and N scale
Once the scale is decided the collections can be started. One must carefully choose the trains if its not got directly from the dealer as it might be defective or have some flaws. Condition of the train, its market rarity and unpredictable nature of the collectors market can make even a rusted piece an absolute attraction.
Price guides are available at all train meets and hobby shops, which give the approximate idea of what the prices are. But a sudden demand can make even a normal piece absurdly expensive. So it's essential that one keeps eye on how the price keeps fluctuating and nail the correct piece at he right time.
There are also large number of online web sites and books for rookies who want to get into train modeling. There are also elaborate maps made specially having layouts are now available. They make the life much easier for newbie's who are often over whelmed by the sheer number in this industry. There are also detailed procedures available for casting and molding of these scenery and building parts, which add authenticity, and a feeling of achievement and fulfillment when the layout is made by one self.
