Talking Babies and Pine Sol

Advertising People Are the Real Money-Makers

Pattie Byrd
Recently, there's been a lot of talk about that Lindsay girl getting upset about that talking baby commercial. I would think as a public figure, like most celebrities, she'd be used to having people throw her name around. That's really between the talking baby people and Lindsay I guess, but really, I can't see what the hubbub's about anyway. I wouldn't know Lindsay if she walked up to my front door.

I think the baby commercial is silly. Don't get excited. I like babies, and I think they're really cute when they do their little antics, but truthfully, what stock traders care what babies think. Now, if they were advertising strained peas or something, I might could see that. Since I really don't have enough money to even think about attempting to waste a lot of it by my dabbling around in the stock market, the company's money was totally thrown away on me. And even if I were a serious investor with tons of money, I'd probably be wise enough to go to a financial guru. Sometimes, I think the real winner in the advertising game is the person selling these big companies a bill of goods.

There are some commercials, though, that do get my attention. One of my favorites is for Pine Sol. Remember Pine Sol? They always say it leaves your house smelling as good as the outdoors. Now, I'll admit I don't use Pine Sol because I don't particularly like my house to smell like pine trees. It's the same reason, I don't like lemon anything. If there's going to be a smell permeating my house, I'd just as soon it remind me of food. You know, something like vanilla or apples. If I want to smell pine trees, I go out into my back yard.

But back to the commercial I like. The lady comes home to find a young strapping man with his shirt off, and he's mopping her floors with Pine Sol, of course. And the great thing is that even when she walks in, he doesn't stop. Hey, what an idea! The next thing you see is the lady lying across a bed covered in rose petals in a candlelit room. A man at home mopping a floor and creating a romantic atmosphere? I got to get me some Pine Sol.

I can't stand the talking baby commercials, but I'd really love for a shirtless man to mop my floors.
