Talking Heads, U2, Cure, Devo, and Eighties Bands Whipped Up Danceable Beats
Poem Written for National Poetry Month
the Vogue was the place to meet someone.
The disco lights swirled the theatre
and girls and guys dressed up in leather.
U2 and the Cure cranked from a tape,
Devo chanted "Whip it. Into Shape."
The Eighties held passion and rebellion,
in smoke filled rooms with jazzed like ions.
I wanted "White Wedding" and "Hammerheads",
while guys pogoed and bumped heads.
Chains and muscles, and tight legged jeans
meant we were in fashion and part of the scene.
And Talking Head "Stop Making Sense"
kept us whirling, laughing and intense.
Those were the days, of freedom to dance
when I worked all day then settled for chance.

Post a CommentLoved all those bands, especially Talking Heads. The 80's were a time of innocence for me, but that was mainly because I was a kid. Nice work!
Nicely Written :)
I became of age in the 70's...I can relate.......thanks
Cool poem. I was just a wee lad in the 80s, but I do remember it!
More my children's decade than mine.
great fun!
I am totally out of the disco and music seen but looks good
Great fun...miss some of that music. The great thing is, though, I can pop it in and play it when I feel the need. :)
