Most of you might not be aware of the largest and southernmost island of the Mariana archipelago called Guam. This island has been a US territory since 1898. Despite its size, which is significantly smaller than other US cities, Guam has a lot to offer the adventurous traveler. My family and I recently visited Talofofo Falls and Resort Park.
The said most popular falls in Guam, USA is located in the village of Talofofo. Adults pay an entrance fee of $10 while children enter for $5. The fee entitles the visitor to a Mini Train Ride, a Cable Car Ride, a visit to the Historical Museum and a ride in the Turn Around Chair. For an additional fee, one can also try the Monorail and enter the Ghost House.
Our favorites are the two minute cable car ride which offers a magnificent view of the waterfalls. We also liked crossing the suspension bridge while enjoying the view all around. Also, the Historical Museum is interesting to visit if you´re curious to know Guam´s rich heritage.
My absolute favorite however is the rendition of Sergeant Soichi Yokoi´s cave. Yokoi was a Japanese soldier who hid in the jungles of Talofofo during World War 2. His two other companions weren´t as fortunate as he was for they died while in hiding. Yokoi managed to survive in the jungle by building a small cave for shelter where he lived for 28 years.
I am amazed at this man´s resourcefulness and will to live. Forget those Survivor shows, in my opinion Sergeant Yokoi is the ultimate survivor. Yet it is also sad to think that he lived in isolation for many years not knowing that the war has indeed ended.
He was finally discovered by local farmers in 1972 and returned to Japan where he was given monetary compensation by their government. He eventually married and enjoyed the rest of his life until 1997 when he passed away.
If you want to experience something unique and different, Talofofo Falls and Resort Park is the perfect destination for you.

Post a CommentTalofofo Falls is a must-see by all visitors and residents of Guam. It speaks quietly of the history and present times of Guam. It shows how blessed Guam is. Thanks to the people who have preserved this place, especially Yokoi's cave, and to all who are currently working there.
Thanks Darnell. Talofofo Falls can be hard to find if you're not used to the island. It is now a privately owned resort and they have prohibited swimming in the area. I hope you can come and visit it next time...and don't forget the dollars, lol.
