After sitting in 4th Street Jail for one day, Tammi Smith was released around 4am MST on Wednesday February 3 2010. Her incarceration was due to three felonies in connection with missing Baby Gabriel Johnson, now nine months old. Jack Smith, her husband, had paid her $15,000 bond. The pair crossed the street to talk to waiting news media. Tammi told of her jail experience, criticized the Tempe police, and derided the evidence and witnesses. The father of Baby Gabriel, Logan McQueary, was the next topic.

After Jack said he had told Logan on December 21 'the phone number of where she [Gabriel's mother, Elizabeth Johnson] was at', Tammi interrupted by saying that after they had told Logan that Elizabeth wasn't coming back if he didn't sign the adoption papers- per Elizabeth's request- he should have gone to Texas for his baby then. Tammi said she would have done so. "I would have been on the next flight to San Antonio," said Tammi.

Tammi said she had told Logan about Elizabeth's intentions to disappear. "I mean, come on, did he not want to find his baby? I don't understand. I don't believe he wanted to find his baby ever. He only wanted her [Elizabeth] to be in trouble. And that's exactly what he's doing to me today. He only wants me in trouble. He only wants Elizabeth in trouble. I don't believe in my heart of hearts he ever cared about getting that baby. If he did, he had weeks to go get that baby but never once tried. Never once did he go to San Antonio and go to every hotel off of the Interstate to say, 'hey, have you seen this woman or this baby?' Didn't do it." said Tammi.

"I would have, you would have," interjected Jack. "My God! I would have gone in a heartbeat," exclaimed his wife. "Everybody out there would have," said Jack. "The golden boy did not want that the baby," said Tammi.

The Smiths both said they love Baby Gabriel. "Yes, I love this baby," said Tammi. "We still love this baby," said Jack. Then, Tammi said, "I will look for this baby until he's found. I will look for this baby for the rest of my life until he's found even though it means bringing him back to Logan. Oh, well, you know I'm still going to look for this baby. That baby deserves to come home."

Tammi apologized to the media for seeming 'a little bit angry right now' but 'Logan has done this'. "I've been told by just about every one of the media that Logan has done this," said Tammi. Directing her words toward Logan, Tammi Smith added, "I will help you Logan to find your baby but as far as you go... be watching."
