Are you going on vacation to a beach resort? Are you engaged and trying on dresses? Do you want to lose weight to keep up with your kids? A few pounds shouldn't be that difficult. Whatever your motivations may be, my list can help you get started.

1. Get more sleep. Studies have shown people eat more when they're tired. Extra food helps replace your energy. Instead of snacking to keep your body awake, make sure you get enough sleep!

2. Enlist support. Find a weight loss buddy to help you meet goals. Support can make a difference. Tell your family and friends you are going on a diet. They will know not to offer you sweets!

3. Don't buy junk. Stock your cupboards with only healthy foods. If you have junk food at home you will eat it. When you are feeling hungry it will be harder to cheat. It gets easier every day!

4. Eat often. Eat smaller meals frequently throughout the day. It's easier for digestion. Pack a few healthy options for lunch at work and consume each portion separately!

5. Reduce your calories. Find out your optimal calorie intake and stay within the range. Most foods are required to show this number. Read the labels and learn to estimate!

6. Drink water. When you are dieting you need to drink lots of water. It a free no calorie drink. Keeping hydrated boosts your energy levels and helps your stomach feel full!

7. Plan your meals. When you are dieting you should try to plan meals in advance. Don't buy food or plan meals when you're hungry. When you're tired from work, meals should be simple and quick. You'll be less tempted to stop at the drive-thru!

8. Choose rewards. Pick small rewards for meeting your goals. Never reward with food. A new pair of sneakers to use at the gym or a music CD works well!

9. Eat slowly. A good tip for dieting is to eat your food slowly. Make sure to chew it a lot. Eating too quickly can cause overeating. It's harder to know when you're full!

10. Get more exercise. It's hard to lose even a little weight if you don't do any exercise. You don't have run a ten-mile hike, but you should try to keep yourself busy. Walk the dog, play with kids or do a lap of the mall. Choose activities that are simple and fun!

Losing a few pounds for an event takes work. Keeping the weight off is harder. You may have to evaluate the lifestyle you are living and decide to make permanent changes. Good luck!
