1. Go apple picking. Find an orchard by your house and bring baskets to fill. Children love being outdoors. They like to feel helpful and try different things. It's fun eating and baking them too!
2. Go horseback riding. Fall is a great time to teach kids about horses. The weather is cool and the horses are playful. Take your kids on a trail ride through a forest or field. It's a great way to see those fall colors!
3. Go for a hike. Drive to a national park or a local ravine. Check your map out to find a great spot. Take your dog with you and pack a few snacks. It's lots of fun and great exercise too!
4. Go fishing. Fall is a great time to take your kids fishing. Find a river or lake by your house. Take the fishing poles, music and bring along food. It's a fun way to relax and unwind!
5. Pick your pumpkin. Find a field by your house where you can choose your own pumpkin. Take your family along to the patch. Have each member select pumpkins to match their own style. Carve Jack-O-Lanterns and bake pumpkin seeds.
6. Host a Halloween party. Kids love to dress up and hang out with their friends. Get more use from that Halloween costume. Host the party the weekend after your kids Trick-or-Treat. Your house is already decorated and you can use up spare candy!
7. Take your kids to the fair. When the fair comes to town, plan to go with your kids. It's a great place to have family fun. Go on rides, play some games and eat too many sweets. Book the day off and win some stuffed animals!
8. Rake those leaves. Nothing says fall more than raking up leaves. It doesn't have to be a big chore. Grab some rakes and a bag and start making up piles. Let the kids jump and play hide-and-seek.
9. Watch the Thanksgiving Day parade. It's easy to stay home and see the floats on TV, but the kids like it more when you're there. Make the effort to find a good spot in the crowd. You can wave, clap and cheer for your favorites!
10. Make a scarecrow. Find an old pair of jeans and a button down shirt. Fill with straw to make a good body. Find shoes and a hat and a bag for the head. Draw a face on and place on your porch!
Make the most of this season and have fun with your kids. Try different sports or get out for a walk. See the fall colors and rustle those leaves. Teach your kids all that fall has to offer.
