Tammy's Ten: Snow Activities for Kids

Tammy White
It's cold outside and there is snow on the ground. It's winter and the kids are bored. Don't spend all day watching TV indoors, grab your snowsuits and go outside. Children don't care if the roads are slippery or think shoveling a driveway is work. For fun activities you can do with your family this winter see my list for great snow activities!

1. Hiking- Don't let the snow stop you from getting out for a walk. Put on your scarf and go for a hike. See the Christmas lights glowing and the tress covered in white. Bring your dog to a national park!

2. Skiing- Children over four can grasp the concept of skiing. Try cross country or even downhill. Sign your kids up for lessons or ski a trail by your house. Save money and rent the equipment!

3. Tobogganing- Find a good hill in your neighborhood and get out your toboggan. Try magic carpets or a family-sized sled. Garbage bags work fine for little hills in your yard. Try tubing with your family and friends!

4. Snowmen- There are so many great things you can sculpt out of snow. Build snowmen, snow animals or furniture. Let your kids get creative making crafts out of snow. Use carrots, hats and an assortment of extras!

5. Fort- A lot of time can be spent outside creating a snow fort. Use your snowdrifts to make tunnels and rooms. Make an igloo by packing snow into buckets and containers. Make it smooth with a little water!

6. Angels- Making prints in the snow can be a fun activity. Make funny footprints or classic snow angels. Burry your legs in the snow like you do in the sand. Use a stick to draw pictures and words!

7. Snowball Fight- Kids love throwing snowballs, especially at grownups. Make up teams and find spots to hide. Be sneaky but gentle and teach your kids how to play. When they are older they will know what to do!

8. Snow cones- Kids love eating snow, especially when they're young. Collect fresh snow and added syrup to make snow cones. Find a recipe online to make snow ice cream together. It's a unique winter treat you can eat!

9. Sleigh ride- Find a farm near your house that offers family sleigh rides. Bundle up and enjoy the ride. Infants and grandparents can come along too. Be adventurous and try horseback riding!

10. Treasure hunt- Find dollar store treasures you can bury in your yard. Have your kids dig through the snow to find them. Make a list of the items you have hidden around. You may find a few treasures in spring!

Winter is a great time to get out and be active. Don't be lazy because of the weather. Show your kids how much fun the winter season can be. Make hot chocolate and warm up by the fire!

AWW, I wish I could use these tips, but we only get about an inch of snow, one day a year, every other year here in North Texas...
    Looks like so much fun
