Tampa TV Anchor Russell Rhodes Arrested

Russell Rhodes, a TV anchor for Tampa's Fox 13 Good Day Tampa Bay program, was arrested for alleged drunken driving and resisting arrest. He was spotted Friday night driving recklessly in a BMW in a public-parking garage by an officer from the County Sheriff's office.

On being stopped, Rhodes apparently stepped out of his car looking intoxicated with his belt undone and pant unbuttoned. He tried to resist arrest and in the tussle that followed, he was knocked down to the ground and his face was badly bruised and bloodied. His blood samples were taken to be tested for the presence of alcohol.

He was treated and released at Tampa General Hospital, booked into the Orient Road Jail and released Saturday morning after posting $500 bail. Rhodes is reported to have admitted that he had panicked on being caught because he was concerned about his job with Fox 13.

Instead of simply being a news broadcaster, this is not the first time a TV anchor has made news for the wrong reasons.

In July 2008, Philadelphia's KYW-TV anchor Larry Mendte was charged with federal crime over illegally hacking into his former colleague Alycia Lane's email account to leak information about her social life to the media.

Alycia Lane herself made news for celebrity gossip and glamour in late 2007 and later got arrested in New York City after a late-night scuffle with a plainclothes female police officer. After this incident she was fired from KYW-TV.

Former Detroit TV anchor Suzanne Page from WLAJ, Channel 53 in Detroit was charged with embezzling $150,000 from a financial services client. She was earlier embroiled in a case of shoplifting and had pleaded guilty for drunken driving and child endangerment in another case. She was however found dead in early 2008.

It is a wonder that the TV anchors pronounce judgments and make or mar people's character without being anywhere close to perfection!
