Having read excerpts and certain chapters of Tao Te Ching in the past and doing light research on Taoism, I believed that my general philosophy was Taoist, even though my faith is Christianity. When I finally sat down and read the entire Tao Te Ching in one sitting though, everything in the book hit so close to home that it brought about security and peace of mind.
With my views and beliefs correlating with the words of Tao Te Ching, I was introduced to new ways to go about my path. Although I have been disappointed with many books (with Of Mice and Men at the top of the list), this was not the case with Tao Te Ching. Tao Te Ching is the kind of book that sounds mystical at the surface level but will ultimately bring you back to reality in a refreshed way.
Clear and to the point, Tao Te Ching is the easiest reading for anyone who wishes to find peace and struggles to find the meanings in the wordy self-improvement literature of America today.

Taoism is generally divided into two parts-the religion and the philosophy. If someone says they are Taoist they may be speaking of either one.
