Tapas Acupressure Technique for Beginners #3: Intention and First Session

Lucy Myers
Whether this is your first or 50th TAT session, setting your intention is very important. So, before you begin, focus your attention on the following statements, or create some that are meaningful to you.

"This healing will benefit me on all levels. It will benefit my ancestors and my family. This healing will help all parts of the situation, everyone involved, and all points of view I have ever held to be true."

This statement and those like these bring your attention to healing. The root meaning of the word heal is whole, and saying you want the healing to benefit all these things is a way of expressing your intention to make them all whole. It hasn't been proven that leaving out this step would, for instance, make more TAT necessary. But it stands to reason that healing all these things at once would be easier and more productive than healing each level in turn.

Say the above statement, or your own similar intention, at the beginning of every TAT session you do. After your first session, you can assume the TAT pose and move on to the nine steps in the TAT process. But if this is your first time using Tapas Acupressure technique, you should assume the TAT pose and spend a few seconds to a minute focusing on each of these statements separately.

"Tat is too easy to work or be of any value."

"TAT is easy and could work and be of great value."

"I deserve to live and I accept love, help and healing."

These statements open your mind to the very real possibility that TAT will heal you, and remove any negative beliefs associated with either healing in general or TAT specifically. In addition, some people have reported a sense of wonder, relaxation and contentment when they focus on the third statement.

You can either state your intention and say the above statements aloud, or focus on them silently. It's more effective for some TAT practitioners to say them aloud, but you can do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Just as you practiced the TAT pose before moving on, you should practice these statements before learning the rest of the TAT process. It's not hard to memorize them, and they can help you in other situations, even when you're not using TAT. This makes them worth memorizing, especially the third one. In our fast-paced world, people rarely, if ever, stop and think about how much they truly deserve to live a life of happiness. But the third statement will help you focus on your own happiness and make it easier to spot and make changes in your life.
