Target: A Great New Years Eve Spot

Our Tradition is to Spend New Years Eve at Target

Susan Antonelli
Among the suggested subjects given by AC Media to write on was Great Places to Spend New Years Eve. Well, this absolutely ranag my bell. In our litle family hubby and I have taken to spending New Years Eve with my daughter and son in law. We go out for an early dinner but then comes the highlight of the evening. We head over to Target, whichever one we're closest to and that's where we do our real celebrating.

We are all dressed up and we head in . The store is bright and cheery and still has lots of Christmas decorations up. We usually get there a bit on the late side so the store is always practically empty. It's also practically empty because it's New Years Eve. Go figure. Obviously, no one has caught on to the great fun you can have hanging out in Target New Years Eve.

One of the draws is the fact that by now everything Christmas is 90% off. This alone would be enough to make us giddy. We stroll up and down the aisles, sometimes it's the gals up one aisle the guys on another, sometimes we go as a foursome. We have our wagons and we fill them up with whatever Christmas nonsense we feel we can't live without. At 90% off, who cares. If our bill totals $7 or $8.00 we're fine with it. If you went anywhere else you'd be adding zeros to your totals. We have a little challenge , who can find the best bargain or the wonkiest item. Lots of jokes are cracked about whatever we come up with. One year we got about a dozen reindeer horn headbands which we try to remember to wear this special night. We've used them for family photo ops every Christmas since we bought them.

We try to end the evening in the food area picking out the best desert for 90% off. We purposely avoid having desert after dinner so we can save ourselves for this part of the evenings events.Chocolates are usually good, there are always boxes of candy canes, again it's part of the challenge.

We pick out something for next years tree, something for the kids and the rest is just catch as catch can. At this point, after doing this for several years, we no longer can buy Christmas wrapping paper or ribbon. We've stock piled enough from previous sales so the challenge gets a bit harder every year.
This also works out very well if there's no one to leave the kids with. Then it becomes even mor fun because they like the whole idea of it being a special night, they can head to stationery with us or we all can go to the toy aisle. It's interesting to see how easy it is to keep children entertained and to keep ourselves entertained.

We always talk to the check out staff and try and cheer them up after all, look what they're stuck doing New Years Eve. We've met some very nice people that way and they seem to enjoy our crazy little evening as much as we do.

We hang out there about an hour, thats usually enough fun for us. So,although this isn't The Plaza Hotel or some grand restaurant, ior hot new night club it's one of the best places to go for a lauagh, some light fun, some super shopping and a nice early to bed evening.

This is a sad sad article that speaks loads about the materialism of our society. The best place to celebrate New Year's eve is TARGET?! Give your credit card a break and go enjoy friends and family! Have a drink and dance and celebrate having lived on this Earth another fabulous year! Celebrate at Target... this HAS to be written by some lame Target marketing idiot.

Wow I hope your heartily involved in charity and have not a single piece of unnec clothing, a vehicle, tv's or hey, a computer! You could send yours to Africa. I do charity work all the time, I donate my time and my money and always have.

Your cute little "shopping fun" is actually destructive to the environment, did you think about that? You're having little laugh and a joke, but others are suffering of starvation, etc. Why don't you donate money to a charity, instead of engaging in rampant, sick consumerism that ruins the earth for you and your children's children?
