Last summer I decided to see what all the hype was about this wonderful store Target. My husband and I had moved out East on Long Island and were now only minutes away. So I took my son one afternoon for a drive. It was definitely an experience. I soon realized that you can overspend at this store. You need to go in with a shopping list and a limit on what you are willing to spend. You can buy anything from milk to diapers to clothes to auto parts to toilet paper. The list goes on and on what you can purchase at this store.
So on my first shopping excursion I probably spent over $100. I couldn't believe it but the prices were so good I couldn't resist. The baby food was half the price of the supermarket. A case of Pamper diapers at Babies R Us was $36 but I got it at Target or $26 and that wasn't even with a coupon. A value pack of Pampers wipes was about $3.0 less at Target then Babies R Us. I was saving a lot of money but also spending a lot if I didn't go in with my list.
I opened up a Target Red Card and saved 10% off my order. The only problem with having this credit card is that I ran it so high I hit my limit. I was using it at other stores since it was also a VISA. I would purposely use it because when you hit a certain amount of Target points they will send you a 10% coupon. I think I overused it. So my advice would be not to get the VISA just the regular Target Red Card. I am still over my limit so I can't use it yet. When I called the company they were wonderful. They took half of my late fee off and didn't charge me an over the limit fee. The interest rate is a little high so once I pay it off I am not sure I will use it as much. The customer service people were very helpful over the phone.
One thing I am not that happy with is the stores' return policy. If you have a receipt and it with a certain time period it is OK you can return it. If you don't have a receipt because the item was a gift they will only let you make 2 returns in one year on using one driver's license. Even with this policy there are stipulations. It can only be a certain number of items and up to a certain amount of money. I am not sure if this policy is different from store to store or it is a store wide policy. I am not a fan of this policy. I had my husband come with me one night to return some gifts because I was already over my return limit.
If you aren't stuck on brand names then I would suggest trying the Target brand. I have tried the Target brand on many of my items and have not been disappointed. The only item I would not purchase again are Target napkins, stick with Bounty. They were awful. I would definitely recommend buying the Target brand for mouthwash. At the supermarket I was paying $7.99 for a big bottle if Listerine. At Target you can get their brand of mouthwash for $2.39. My husband checked the ingredients comparing the Listerine to to the Target brand and he said they were exactly the same. So why wouldn't you want to save over $5.00? I know I would. I have also bought Target brand Tylenol, Target brand Motrin, Target brand tinfoil, and the list goes on and on here as well.
Overall I would highly suggest visiting the Target store if you want to save tons of money. Remember, go in with a list, stick to it, and a limit of what you are willing to spend. Or else you will definitely over spend like I did. I was like a kid in a candy store.
Have fun shopping!
