Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain Review

Harder to Remove Than Paint

Alexis Valentine
There are all sorts of lip and eye products that have been created to lasts all day, even several days. Lip stains that are so hard to wash off it would require paint thinner. Now, if there was a mascara that lasted all day without fading, smudging or smearing that would be perfect, and recently I discovered there was actually a mascara that did just that. In fact it not only lasted all day but four days! Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain came in my Sephora deluxe mascara sampler I received as a gift, and the following are my pros and cons for this product.

Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain was design to keep your lashes looking full for four days without ever having to reapply. It's also waterproof, and formulated with polyglot technology that keeps your lashes soft and flexible. This mascara contains mineral pigments that protect your lashes from UVA and UVB rays. Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain doesn't contain the following ingredients, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petro-chemicals or phthalates.

What I liked about Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain was that it really does exactly what it claims to do, and that is to be waterproof, last four days without smudging, smearing or flaking. I also liked the brush, it was slender, tapered and curved out at the tips allowing me to apply mascara with little to no mess. The curved tip lets me get right into the outer corners without a problem too. It sounds like the perfect mascara right? Well I thought so too, until I actually tried it for myself and realized how much I hated this product. Okay, I will say it would be perfect for summers by the pool though.

I didn't like Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain because I have no idea why I'd want to wear mascara for four days straight. I tried to remove it with my Almay makeup remover and had a hell of time doing so. I think I actually lost some eyelashes in the process. What I didn't know until checking on Sephora's website was that I had to use an oil-based makeup remover to remove this mascara. I don't use oil-based makeup removers for a reason, and that's because they make my skin oily and tends to clog my pores. Since I don't use oil-based makeup removers I don't generally keep them around.

There were several other reasons as to why I didn't like Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain. I didn't like the mascara's consistency, it was very thin and watery. It also did nothing for my lashes in terms of lengthening and volumizing, and it definitely wasn't buildable because when I tried it just got clumpy on me.

Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain cost $18, and despite how much I don't like it that's actually a pretty reasonable price for what it does. I wouldn't mind spending $18 on a mascara that I didn't have to worry about running when I sweat, or washing off in the pool. For those reasons I thought it was worth the money. I most likely won't buy this mascara again unless I plan on spending a lot of time swimming or laying out by the pool, which I don't.
