Tastes like Cakes Made from Scratch

Don't Tell Grandma

AmyBrowne
Baking a cake from scratch seems complicated for some people. Here are some ideas to make those cakes, which taste like they were made from scratch. Even your grandma will not know unless of course you tell her or do not hide the box.

Baking from scratch is simple, yet most people use a mix and call it homemade. That's fine, but do not let your grand mom catch you doing it.

Tastes like Scratch Chocolate Cake

Coffee and chocolate do not seem to be compatible to most people, but when you are cooking a chocolate cake from scratch, the coffee makes it delicious. It's not only cakes, the same holds true for cupcakes, brownies and of course cookies.

The addition of your favorite brand will make any cake of this flavor take like scratch.

To make this special chocolate cake you need nothing more than a regular cake mix, but instead of adding water, add a cup of cold coffee. The coffee heightens the flavor of the chocolate, and this is the only way I will use coffee. The bitterness one associates with coffee disappears when it's baked.

Red Velvet Cake

Do you need to make a red velvet cake? Simply take a white cake mix and add lots of red food coloring to it. If you wish it to have a bit of flavor, make the cake using the directions on the back of the box. When it's all mixed up, add in a small package of cherry or strawberry jell-o. Do not add water to the jell-o, simply stir it into the batter. Bake it as usual, add the icing, and serve.

Black Forest Cake

A black Forrest cake will cost a lot of money in the bakery or grocery store. Save a few bucks by purchasing a chocolate cake mix, a can of the same flavor of frosting and a can of cherry pie filling. Bake it per the directions on the box, cover in frosting, and spread the canned fruit on top. Chill and serve this one at your next get together for rave reviews.

Banana Delight

Slice a pound cake in thin layers and line the bottom of a small cake pan with them. Add in sliced bananas, and cover the entire thing with a box of either vanilla or banana pudding. Spread cool whip on top of this, and add a few slices of banana as a garnish if so desired.
